After finding the digidash rather a dull affair at night ie: the scales didnt light up, I decided to do some investigation!
On stripping the thing down there are infact 4 bulbs within the unit that at one point in their life did indeed illuminate the scales on the fron glass. These are the same lamps infact that also blow weekly in the heater controls!! ![]() The bulbs now live in a bin and LED technology has taken on the role of scale illumination. These I grouped in sets of 3 soldered directly onto the PCB pins with a resistor. The result is now a far more sensible digidash for night time use! ![]() While I was in there I also took the time to convert the legends from KPH to MPH and correct the mileage from KMs to Miles so all makes sense now! This dash is a real piece of work, all discreete componets and CMOSS logic, fantastic!

What part NOs do ya want sweetie? The stock lamps are: 81850-14650 same as heater control however I believe these cost an arm and are only secreated from the rear end of a rocking horse on the 34th day of a month
![]() I just used 3 - 3mm blue LEDs with flattened off tops soldered into each lamp position instead of bulbs. I cut the PCB legs down to about half the height to aid fitting. Its a little fiddly but 3 LEDs and a resistor fit no problems, for 3 blue LEDs wired in series you need a 200 ohm resistor. I'm guessing a digidash with illuminated scales is a rare thing if these bulbs are used??

looks good mate ! it didnt even occur to me about the scales at the bottom should light up. I assume you found the dimmer as well
![]() Yeah the digidash is an impressive piece of kit, i remember Pete at thor saying the same thing, describing it as way ahead of its time. Its a bugger to get apart though from memory..

Its definately way way ahead of its time, the use of VFD display units makes things mildly more complicated as you need voltage step up circuits to drive them.
Its not the getting it apart thats the issue but, its a ******** ************** ***** ** **** ** ***** * *********** & a ******* ***** ** * ***** to get back together again and keep all the layers clear of dust and goo from the skanky foam rubber toyota insisted on putting all over these cars !!

ok this is going to sound mega dumb but when you say legend what do you mean? is it the MPH part as oposed to the KP/H part or is it the numbers? and is it pronounced the same as for example Alan Shearer is a legend?
edit: good work btw stu

As if I wouldn't sink my teeth into a piece of technology from my era Mav and have a tinker
![]() By legends I mean the numbers and markings on the front panel, speed, fuel, 1,2,3,4 etc etc. Football players are not legends they are alternative fuel and should be burned for electricity along with a number (not all) of the so called "fans" that act like complete t!ts and start riots etc. Rear fans will be educated on why it's wrong to pay such vast amounts of money to someone who can kick a ball about - sometimes even getting it in a "goal" mainly just rolling on the floor however. Oh joy it's footy season again isn't it, oh joy! - cant you just tell I love footy?! I'm not a sportsman but I am a good sport...

so why are they called legends then and not numbers or symbols? (the numbers i mean lol) I used the footballer to symbolise the word legend into something easy to understand.

Its our crazy English language where one word can have several meanings.
Legend can be used to describe: a) A fable, folk tale, myth b) A celebrity etc c) A caption, inscription etc Same as : Mean, mean & mean!! a) He's mean b) I mean c) Mean value of.. These words are known as Homonyms, spelt the same but have different meanings (my sister teaches A level English ) The group also includes words that sound the same but are spelt differently, ie: There, they're, Their..It's our daft language where words have been evolved over years from a combination of different lagnguages, Latin, French, Spanish - you name it we've pinched it ![]() And so endeth the English lesson, there will be a test on thursday after break.. Car wise: Hid lites in with levellers sorted. LED clear front end in - looks so clean on the white. Door handle lights in - white exterior ones this time to match car, blue interior, illuminates inner and outer handles when doors unlocked. Key hole light reconditioned, now nice and bright with blue illumination. Temporary TV/CD/Tuner installed. Rear screen ANT connected up so electric unit can be scrapped!! Blue switch gear swapped over from 7M - can see stuff at night now!! Still to do. LED rear clusters - internals need swapping over, No plate units need modding. Auto pattern indicators need relighting. TEMS switch panel needs replacing. Swap springs over. Auto up/down drivers mod and total closure need fitting. Steering wheel needs to swap over. Fuel comp and map need fitting (fuel cut) HKS SSQV requires a hard pipe and flange to fit. UK diagonal rear belts can be fitted. Boot ICE required - needs to be lid compatable... Stainless sills need swapping over. Rear fog needs incorporating into rear clusters - stock switch already fitted and waiting. Auto side and headlight systems need fitting (particularly handy with the digi dash!) A so on..... As usual all is non damage and can be removed without trace!

Cool..
Are you going to swap over the rear seat belts? I personally think the JDM ones look way cleaner and the rear windows look less cluttered, I only swapped to UK ones as I was doing the full shadow grey plastics swap, and the dark grey rear trim would have had un used seatbelt bolts/slots... Its not like anyone can fit in the back and sit normally anyway!

I just find the UK belts more practical as well as being way safer obviously.
They coil back out the way and when people use them there aint all this adjusting a belt rubbish etc! Shall see how I feel! The grey trim is not mega noticably different to the shadow grey & I note the seat plastics in the limited are in the lighter grey anyway, toyota possibly didnt make the seat plastics in the shadow grey?
