After finding out the Power Fold Mirrors on my Imported Aero took a long time to demist I wondered why!
Quick investigation confirmed the suspition that heated glass is not fitted to the power fold mirrors - presumably because the weather over seas is far far far less hatefull than the weather is here! Personally I can't live without that feature so, I investigated fitting heated glass using a spare set of UK mirrors I had kicking about in the shed!. The mirror glasses remove easily using a pry tool under the lower part of the frames. The standard mirrors come out on nylon worm gears and the power fold versions have 2 clips. The standard heated mirror glass frames are completely different to the power fold frames, as shown below. (top power fold, bottom standard) ![]() Heating these frames in an oven (I set fan oven to to 110) softens the frames and allows you to remove them from the glass. ![]() Once removed you are left with an empty frame and a glass. The heated glass requires a slight modification of the power fold frame to allow the heater connection to protrude through, this you can see below - I just enlarged the hole in the frame being careful not to remove the clips that hold the thing in the wing mirror! ![]() Next I popped the frames back in the oven to bake! The heated glasses just drop into the hot frame which then cools to fit around it. ![]() I removed the other half of the plug from the spare mirrors and extended the cables. These routed down the back of the power fold motor then in through the same gromet as the motor looms. The plug needs to be glued rite up into the top corner of the glass so as not to foul on the casing inside. ![]() Wiring wise - I have not gotten that far yet but, one of the cables will simply earth inside the door - this means you only have to run 1 additional cable from each door. I am going to take these back to the kick panel fuse box where I will be able to connect them into their proper plugs on the back of the fuse box. Popping in the mirror heater fuse will then power them up as normal with the heated screen. Job done! I'll do a guide on Supradupra as and when - just thought I'd give people here a first look! While I was in the wing mirrors I also took a second additional cable in too - this will later be used to fit some LED pudle lights as seen on a lot of newer vehicles, just need to devise a way to make them totally flush with the bottom of the mirror casing.

Way to go Stuey!!!!
: : :I've been kicking this idea around in my head for a few months, since reading that the Jap ones wernt heated. I'll put it on the end of my long list of things to do with car, right after engine transplant and touch screen puter install!

Hopefully soon we will have a workshop up on the side of the house then I can get serious with removing everything from the interior and getting the electrics in for everything!
Once I do I'll finish off the guide with the electrical connections to fuse box.

Time to wrap this up then...
Below is the circuit diagram for the mirror heaters. ![]() Wiring wise, you can earth the mirror heaters inside the doors or, for better contacts as, the doors earth through the hinges - you can earth them just behind the kick panel trim. Hint: To get wires through the rubber door conduits, push a piece of stiff wire or tube through first then, pull your wires through on that. The cable in RED here needs to run back to the drivers kick panel fuse box. You will need to gain acces to the back of the main fuse box and locate pin 5 of connector 1N The fuse box is held in place by a 10mm bolt at the bottom and a plastic clip at the top, you just lift the tab slightly and it pulls forward off a metal tab, it's not as hard as it first looks! - I'd advise disconnecting that battery earth lead to prevent any problems. ![]() The live side of the mirrors needs to connect into this pin 5 - I suggest you remove a spare pin & pigtail from and old bit of loom such as the donor mirrors your heated glass came from & join your new wires onto that. The heated mirrors in the picture here are supplied by the Red/White wire. ![]() Now pop the fuse box back in and insert a 10A fuse into slot 14 "MIR-HTR" You now have heated glass on your JDM mirrors controlled properly by the factory system.
